Facilities & Local Info (for International Delegations)

Welcome to Rio de Janeiro and to the Air Force Sports Commission (CDA) area at Campo dos Afonsos. This page gathers everything you need for daily life during the Championship—how to get around, where to shop and eat, how deliveries work on a military base, and how to access the venue safely and smoothly.

Key addresses for navigation and deliveries

  • CDA Main Campus: Av. Marechal Fontenelle – Campo dos Afonsos, Rio de Janeiro
  • HTA (Athletes’ Transit Hotel): Inside the CDA secured area (see Gate 2000 notes below)

Tip: Save the CDA campus and HTA map pins on your phone while on Wi-Fi.

1) Base Access & Security

Because competitions and lodging are within/adjacent to a secured military area, everyone must follow the gate and ID procedures. Please plan a few extra minutes at peak times.

Gate System (vehicles and pedestrians)

  • Gate 800
Use for: General campus access, training days, service vehicles
    Hours: 06:00–21:00 (Mon–Sun)
Notes: Standard ID checks. Handy for daytime training movements and drop-offs.
  • Gate 1200
Use for: Staff, delegations, media pick-ups, event operations
    Hours: 05:30–23:00 (Mon–Sun)
Notes: Often the smoothest option for early departures or late returns outside peak competition hours.
  • Gate 2000 (Closest to the HTA)
Use for: Primary access to the Athletes’ Transit Hotel (HTA) and late-evening athlete movements
Hours: 07:00–22:30 (Mon–Sun) on regular days; extended to 23:30 on competition medal-days
Notes: Shortest walk/drive to the HTA. If a driver can’t enter the base, set the app’s meeting point to Gate 2000 and meet at the curb.

If the LOC announces updated hours during the week, the daily bulletin and venue signage take precedence.

IDs, Badges & Checks

  • Always carry and display your accreditation badge when approaching any gate.
  • Keep your passport or military ID on you; random checks can occur.
  • Show your badge both on entry and exit—guards may scan it each time.
  • Vehicle inspections can happen; filming/photographing the gate area is not permitted.

Shuttle & Pick-up Points

  • LOC shuttles will list Gate 800 / 1200 / 2000 pick-up windows on the daily transport sheet.
  • For ride-hailing or deliveries, use the gate closest to your location (see below) and confirm in-app chat with the driver/rider.

2) Getting Around the City

Ride-hailing: Uber works very well in Rio, including airports (GIG/SDU) and late-night rides. The app accepts international credit cards; scheduling rides is supported.

Safety tip: Ask drivers to stay on main avenues; decline unverified “shortcuts.” If unsure, request a stop in a well-lit public spot and re-route.

3) Food Delivery

iFood is Brazil’s dominant delivery app and works smoothly in the CDA area. You can order from restaurants, snack bars, pharmacies, and some markets.

How to receive deliveries on base:

  • Set the delivery location to the nearest gate (ideally Gate 2000 for HTA).
  • Message the courier in-app to confirm the gate name.
  • Meet the courier at the curb; bring your badge to re-enter.

4) Shopping & Essentials

Closest mall — Parque Shopping Sulacap
What you’ll find: Fast food and casual restaurants, cafés, pharmacies, basic services, small electronics/phone shops—perfect for quick errands.
Getting there: Short ride from CDA/HTA (traffic-dependent).

Largest selection — BarraShopping
Why go: One of Latin America’s largest malls with wide restaurant options (including international cuisine), big retail mix, banks/ATMs, and services.
Getting there: Longer ride; plan extra time in peak traffic.

Groceries — Hypermarket
Carrefour Sulacap — Av. Marechal Fontenelle, 3555 – Jardim Sulacap, Rio de Janeiro – RJ, 21740-001
Stock up on water, snacks, toiletries, basic gear, and mobile accessories.

5) Money, Phones & Power

  • Currency: Brazilian Real (BRL).
  • Payments: Contactless Visa/Mastercard widely accepted (shops, Uber, iFood).
  • ATMs: Available at major malls (BarraShopping and others).
  • Mobile/Internet: Local carriers (Vivo, Claro, TIM) and many eSIM options work well; buy/top-up at malls or phone shops.
  • Power: Type N plug, 127/220 V, 60 Hz. Pack a universal adapter; check your device’s voltage.

6) Health, Safety & Emergencies

  • Emergency numbers: 190 (Police) · 192 (Ambulance/SAMU) · 193 (Fire).
  • On-site first aid: Provided by the LOC during official activities.
  • General tips: Keep valuables discreet, use ride apps or registered taxis, and follow base instructions. Bottled water is widely available if you’re not used to local tap water.

7) Life at the HTA (Athletes’ Transit Hotel)

  • Quiet hours: Respect posted quiet times so everyone can recover between events.
  • Laundry: Self-service or local pick-up options—ask the HTA desk or check iFood/Rappi for laundry partners.
  • Hydration & snacks: Consider a quick Carrefour run on arrival day for bulk water and fruit.
  • Visitors & access: Non-accredited visitors are generally not allowed inside the secured area; meet at the gate or in public venues off-base.
  • Deliveries: Use Gate 2000 as your meeting point; bring your badge to re-enter.
